Aeration & Overseeding
Calgary's heavy clay soil compacts easily, which starves roots of air and water. Core aeration in late summer or early fall opens up the soil, and overseeding fills in thin or patchy areas with a dense, healthy turf. It's a great follow-up to a spring cleanup to keep your lawn thick all season.
- ✓Core aeration relieves clay soil compaction
- ✓Overseeding fills thin and patchy areas
- ✓Best timed late summer to early fall
- ✓Pairs well with a spring cleanup

Calgary Lawn Care Guide
A well-maintained lawn is the foundation of Calgary curb appeal. We keep your grass at the right height through a growing season that runs from May to September — using the right equipment and the right technique for Calgary's grass types and climate.
Calgary Grass Types We Mow
Kentucky Bluegrass
The most common turf grass in Calgary. A cool-season grass that goes dormant in dry spells but recovers on its own through rhizomes. We keep it at 6–8 cm to encourage root depth and drought resistance.
Perennial Ryegrass
Common in newer Calgary developments. Germinates fast and tolerates foot traffic, but needs seeding for repair. We mow it at 5–7 cm.
Fine Fescue
A shade-tolerant grass for yards with heavy tree cover or north-facing lawns. Needs less fertilizer and is drought-tolerant once established. We mow it at 5–8 cm without scalping during spring green-up.
Seasonal Mowing Guide
Spring (May – Early June)
Calgary lawns green up quickly once the snow melts and soil hits 10°C. The first mow is gentle — we keep the deck high and never remove more than one-third of the blade. Spring mowing runs every 7–10 days.
Summer (Mid-June – August)
Peak growing season. Weekly mowing is recommended, with the height raised during hot, dry spells to reduce moisture loss — scalping a lawn in a Calgary drought can permanently damage the roots.
Fall (September – October)
Growth slows as temperatures cool. We reduce mowing to every 10–14 days, and the final cut is shorter (5–6 cm) to prevent snow mold and let winter sunlight reach the grass crown.
